There is a reason Phoenix Dancong is often called a tea of fragrance: before the first sip, the warm, lifted aroma is already part of the experience. This old-bush Ya Shi Xiang opens with floral notes and ripe fruit, then settles into a smooth, honeyed cup with a bright golden-amber color and a lingering sweetness.

The tea comes from mature bushes in the ecological gardens of Phoenix Mountain, at 500–600 meters. Its tightly twisted, dark glossy leaves are made using traditional Dancong techniques. Brewed gongfu-style, the leaves unfold over repeated infusions, letting the fragrance and flavor shift from cup to cup.

Ya Shi Xiang translates literally as “Duck Shit Aroma,” an unforgettable name for a delicate, floral tea. A familiar local legend says growers gave the prized tea an unappealing name to keep others from taking interest; it is a story, rather than a documented account of the name’s origin.

Chinese Tea Alliance selects teas from China’s core growing regions and shares the makers and traditions behind them. This selection brings that approach to Phoenix Mountain, where generations of growers have shaped the distinctive Dancong tradition.
