2000 Ginseng Aroma Liu Bao Dark Tea
Deep red and translucent in the cup, this aged Liu Bao opens with ginseng and herbal aromas, then settles into notes of aged wood, honey, and a faint milky sweetness. Its smooth, rounded liquor has a gentle cooling finish. As the leaves open, the herbal notes soften and the sweeter, woodier character comes forward.
This tea was made in Liubao Town, Wuzhou, Guangxi, from the Guiqing cultivar and leaves picked from mature tea trees. Liu Bao is a post-fermented dark tea with a long history in southern China; it was also carried to Southeast Asian Chinese communities, where it became part of daily tea drinking.
Traditional double steaming and pressing shape the leaves before they’re dried and stored. More than twenty-five years of dry warehouse aging have mellowed the tea and developed its layered aroma. It’s durable across many infusions, and simmering brings out a deeper, fuller cup.
